Inland Fisheries and Sea Angling in Northern Ireland
Inland fisheries and sea angling resources are managed by both the the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure (inland fisheries) and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development which has responsibility for managing the rivers and drainage of Northern Ireland and its sea fisheries.
The Fisheries Conservancy Board

Fisheries Conservancy Board for N.
Ireland is a Non departmental Public Body established under the Fisheries
Act and the fisheries (Amendment) (NI) Order. The sponsor body is the
Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure, who make appointments to the
Board, monitor its performance, and approve the appointment of senior
staff.
Under the provision of the Fisheries Act (NI) 1966, the Board is responsible for the conservation and protection of the salmon and inland fisheries of Northern Ireland other than the fisheries of the Foyle, Carlingford and Irish Lights Commission.
The Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure
The Department of Culture,
Arts and Leisure, a department of the Northern Ireland Executive,
is responsible for the conservation, protection and development of inland
wild fish stocks, and the development of angling and aquaculture undertakings
in inland waters in Northern Ireland (excluding Lough Foyle and Carlingford
Lough).
The Rivers Agency
The Rivers Agency
is an Executive Agency within the Department
of Agriculture and Rural Development. With the exception of emergency
works, it undertakes drainage and flood protection works on watercourses
which have been designated by the Drainage Council for Northern Ireland.
The Agency currently maintains 6,752 km of designated watercourses and
26 km of designated sea defences. It plans and carries out drainage and
flood protection works with care and respect for the environment and has
a statutory duty to protect fisheries.
The Foyle, Carlingford and Irish Lights Commission, one of the six North/South Implementation Bodies established by the British and Irish Governments, is responsible for, among other things, licensing and development of salmon and inland fisheries in the Foyle and Carlingford areas (the Loughs Agency). Its parent Departments are the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in the N.I. Executive and the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources in the Republic of Ireland.
