LONGFORD AREA and the STROKESTOWN LAKES

Photo: Geoff from Humberside with a great catch of Bream.
A few weeks ago Geoff and Wayne from Humberside came to Melview Lodge for their annual fishing holiday this year choosing to come a month later than normal. The weather was not the best but they battled on and had some great catches of fish.

Photo: Geoff with nice catch of Roach.
Spending three days on the pole the catches of roach were excellent, and the rest of their time was spent on the feeder which produced some great nets of bream, hybrids and roach considering the conditions and the time of year.

Kevin said these lads are good anglers and knew how to adjust to the conditions and had a good weeks fishing, well done lads.
At the time of writing the water levels are very high and most if not all places are in flood, the continues cold rain fall has made course fishing near impossible. With more rain forecast in the coming weeks this can only make it even more difficult for anglers wishing to have a day out, the pike angling has been ok considering the conditions with Pike to 24lb being caught from the upper Shannon ( see Pike Report ).

BANAGHER
River levels are winter high with little fishing other than the local harbours at Banagher and Ballinasloe. The Grand canal is also providing fishing opportunities. Water levels are right across the callows and water is continuing to rise.
